Thank you for your email. I am descended from George Wilson (1795-1863) who lived in
Barry County, Missouri (next to Stone). George named a son, Leroy (b.abt.1836 and
d.abt1864) who is my GGgrandfather.
There are some of us who believe your Leroy of Stone county is a brother to our George.
Also, a Hugh L. Wilson who lived next to George in Barry Co. is a brother.
At this time I do not have evidence to absolutely prove they are brothers. However, they
both are from Tennessee, moved to Indiana, then to the same area of Missouri. I think it
is this same George and Leroy who are on the 1830 Greene Co. Indiana census living near
each other. There is also a John Snider living near Leroy who is the father of a Christopher
Snider who marrys one of George's daughters.( Please let me know if you have found your
Leroy on the 1830 census in a different location.) I can't find them anywhere else in
Indiana.
Now this is the best part...a researcher I corresponded with a few years ago thought
George was a son of a Samuel Wilson who d. in Carter Co. Tennessee about 1827.
Samuel's will is on the Carter Co web sit (usgenweb) and he had sons, George, Hugh, and
Leroy. This researcher has moved and I can't locate her to find additional information.
I've just found that some researchers are now saying they think George was the son of a
David Wilson and Jenny Wear and that a Larkin Wilson of Barry Co Missouri is George's
brother. The problem with that is this David had a son named Hugh Preston Wilson who is
a different person than the Hugh L. Wilson who lived next to George Wilson in Barry
County. I am almost positive Hugh L. Wilson is George's brother. I just returned from a
trip to Barry County where I found a court case against Hugh L. Wilson and some of
George's children were called to testify for him. Also, their land patents are right next to
each other on Flat Creek. They lived just east of Cato, Missouri in a U shaped bend of Flat
Creek. I'm not sure what sources the researchers have to connect the David Wilson family
to George, but will let you know if they send me any information. By the way, some of
George's descendants moved to Stone County. Do you know exactly where your Leroy
lived in Stone County?
I would love to have information on your Leroy Wilson (names of descendants and census
records you have found him on etc). Did he really have two sons named James (b.1831
and one b.1849)? I know another researcher who is trying to prove James Leroy (b.1849)
is her ancestor.
I have collected some information on your Leroy and will be glad to send it. Thank you
again for your email! I look forward to hearing from you!
